he Company of the Lance was formed in Auckland New Zealand early April 2005. Our main focus is the sport of full contact jousting in the IJA (International Jousting Associating) style. We do our best to keep as historically accurate as our members purses allow. This includes our armour which ranges from the 14 th century right up into the middle of the 16 th century all made from mild or spring steel. These harnesses can range in value from $4000 to $10000 NZD, depending on period and style. Accompanying our armour is period correct soft costume, ranging from itchy scratchy Hessian underwear through to pure silk doublets (NOTE: itchy scratchy underwear is only required by some members).

Simon, Jezz, Graham & Grant

All our horses are patiently trained to cope with the rigours of jousting. Our horses range from good old NZ stationbreds through to cold and warm bloods depending on temperament and boldness of character. Utmost care is taken in ensuring our horses' well-being is cared for.

COTL (The Company of the Lance) focuses on the mounted joust and skill at arms. We also have a ground crew and foot combatant chapter.  The foot combatant training allows people who don't necessarily want to ride the facility to train in medieval combat and become comfortable around horses, this allows the foot combatant to take part in foot vs foot and foot vs horse combat.

The ground crew is for people who are not interested in combat but who still want to be part of a medieval group , these people help out on the ground during training and public displays.

COTL is also available for public and private displays. If you would like more information about our displays and prices for these  please go to our contact page
